Can you press Ctrl+Shift+Escape together and in the list, see which process is using the most CPU and Disk activity? My 4-year old Toshiba laptop fan had run non-stop since upgrading to Windows 10. I just discovered a post on another site that said to turn off 'Show me tips about Windows' (under Settings/System/Notifications& actions).
I can basically turn my laptop fan on and off by sliding this toggle switch - too funny! I would have never believed it until I tried it. It is evidently spiking the CPU utilization, which is obviously affecting battery life as well.Hopefully this will be resolved in a build soon. I saw this reported to, including on a site where colleagues of mine contribute. When you noticed this, I'm curious if you noticed what task it shows the utilization under inside task manager? When I turn the switch ON, a process named 'Runtime Broker' jumps to the top of the CPU usage list, and it typically is using 18%-22% CPU non-stop. Turn the switch OFF, 'Runtime Broker' drops back to 0%.A few other processes also spike during the 'switch ON' period. 'Service Host: Remote Procedure Call (2)', 'Service Host: DCOM Server Process Launcher (6)', 'Host Process for Windows Tasks', and 'Shell Infrastructure Host'.All together, my CPU usage stays at 43%-45% while this switch is ON.
Switch it off and all of the above tasks go idle (or disappear) and CPU idles at around 1% usage. HUGE difference. Sort your Task Manager list up there by CPU or Disk access and see what's using the most. Or on the Performance tab you can click 'Open Resource Monitor' for even more details. Also open your Indexing Options. Unless it says complete, expect your fan to stay on and strong until it's done. It's one of the top things that bring Windows 8.0 onward to its knees for the first 24-48 hours after install. And if you're using the computerfor actually stuff, it slacks off (still killing performance.
Just enough to make it take even longer). Shawn 'Cmdr' Keene Microsoft MVP - Windows Insider CmdrKeene.com tweet me: @LtCmdrKeene Microsoft MVPs are independent experts offering real-world answers. Learn more at mvp.microsoft.com.

I have had my laptop for abour two years now and it has been working fine until about two weeks ago when the fan started making grinding noises and was on all the time. All of a sudden though my laptop fan started going crazy, it is loud and seems like it is spinning really fast. The laptop doesn’t seem to be heating up. I turned off my laptop and left it over night but the next morning when i turned on my laptop the fan starts spinning right away and it still makes the loud noise.Model:13-s020nr. Welcome to HP Support Forums. Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.
I came across your post and would like to assist.I understand that you have an HP Pavilion x360 - 13-s020nr. I read that the internal fan is too fast and makes a loud noise.I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:. Power off the laptop. Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.

Literally just figured this out. I have a Samsung Ativ Book 9 (i7), and since the update with Cortana, the fan has been revving up and down constantly - every second it goes from 50% to 100% fan speed when usually the fan doesn't come on at all, and if it does it comes on at about 30% speed for two or three seconds and turns off. Anyways, uninstalled just about everything because it was driving me mad, and disabled literally everything I can think of, still did it from the moment I turned the computer on and even before I signed in. Found the culprit:CORTANA. And it didn't work just to turn her off in the settings. Because she was still running under task manager, what I did was fiddle with the security settings to take ownership and set permissions to modify files under Cortana's file location, and I renamed the 'core' dll so that it wouldn't function. As soon as I did that, fan turned off, and after I restarted it now works as before.I'm extremely relieved.

Hope this helps people reading this too, because I haven't seen any proper write ups on this save for one other person on another forum which gave me the idea.
Hello board and support team! The fan in my e540 does not stop once it has started spinning. This is completely independent of system tempreature. Even though the temperature of the board and the cpu is below 40.C the fan won't stop. The fan does not always spin, though. If I wake up the system from sleep or power it on, the fan does not spin and will not start spinning until a certain temperature threshold is reached. This part of fan control works correctly.Interesting procedure: I work until the system gets hot and the fan kicks off. I waint until the system is cooled down below 40.C (checked with speccy software, the air stream leaving the notebook is cold). The fan is still spinning at this point and will probably spin forever.
How To Stop Laptop Fan
I suspend the laptop (no complete power off required). I immediatally 'wake up' the laptop (system temperature did not change, no time to cool down).
Laptop Fan Running Non Stop Youtube
The fan is off again and will not start spinning until the temperature threshold is reached. What can I do to resolve this problem? I don't always want to suspend my notebook in order to turn off the fan. It should stop on it's own.
